The BYOB Boat
Aka, the BYOBB. Motor Vessel Bay Mutt is the East Bay's easy, laid-back, San Francisco Bay cruising tour-boat, fishing-boat, and charter-boat. Our focus is on floating. Your focus is on chilling.
Private Tours + Charters
Reserve the Bay Mutt for a private Bay Area excursion for up to 6 guests. Comes with a captain (Bradley) and your choice of ammenities. No minimum time. Various docking options. Your destination.
Fishing Trips
Designed as the low price and reasonably timed fishing trip of SF Bay. This is good for families who can't be on the waer for 8+ hours. It's the only affordable fishing charter on the pay. Learn how we do it...
Tours and Cruises
Are ticketed cruises carry up to 6 passengers plus crew. We aim for a destination, you BYOB (that last "b" could stand for burritos, bubbles, beer, or even fishing poles), and we putt there and pack at a whopping 5 to 8knts. Bay Mutt goes slow and steady, we talk history and literature, and we relax and look at the stars, or marine mammals, or city lights.

Fishing
We run about 1 fishing trip out of Berkeley each week. Our 6 passenger boat, the "Bay Mutt" is a different fishing experience that what you may be used to. We depart Berkeley, cruise for 30 minutes, and either drift or anchor (depending on the season). Unlike other fishing charters, our goal is to let you fish, it is not to go where the fish are - we don't promise fish. We also keep our trips to 3 to 4 hours total. This means we can offer a much lower price point than any other fishing charter around. We are kid friendly, and you even have the option to charter to whole boat.
Charters and Boat Rental
You can rent Bay Mutt for up to 8 hours (charged by the hour). Good for 6 people, plus me (or another captain), we can travel anywhere within San Francisco Bay, including under the Golden Gate Bridge, to Angel Island, or along the City Front.
Cruises and Tours
Have you ever wonder how many beers your partner can drink as you circumnavigate Angel Island while listening to a guide rant about the abandoned serpentinite mine there? Have you insepcted Alctraz Island at night? Do you want to know more about Jack London? Are you sick of dicking around doing nothing on Monday evenings? Read more about our specialty cruises and tours...
Stay Up to Date
Be the first to know...
If you didn't notice, we aren't really into the whole tech thing. We don't do social media. The website is kinda essential for starting the company, but maybe we can trash this too in the not to distant future. Sign up below for updates to our calander and be the first to know... We offer a $5 refund or free beverage for anyone who post a rediculously negative review on YELP or Google Reviews.

FAQ
What is the boat like?
Fucking awesome, wethinks! It is a 1981 35' Coastal Cruising Trawler. It's built to conserve fuel and hunker down for long hauls. There are two bedrooms (one converted to a museum and the other for sleeping kids). There are two bathrooms (one is now a fishing supplies locker). The outside deck wraps around the entire cabin and there is enough room on the upper deck for all passengers. The cabin is comfy and has wrap around windows for perfect views on colder days. This is small for a charter boat, but it's plenty of space for the seven of us.
What should I bring?
We use the phrase BYOB not because you must bring beer, but you because you must bring burritos. Just kidding, sort of.... Hum. Bring clothes for wind. Bring food or drinks, unless you want to purchase ours. Don't bring phones... This is a boat on an adventurous mission in San Francisco Bay. It can get rocky, windy, and salt water spray is common. Dress for the occasion.
Are you really tech free?
We have a Poloroid Camera aboard that you can take photos with. Please leave your technological crap at home or in the trash. This means phones, computers, laptops, earbuds, robots, lazer beams, and drones. Am I serious? Yes, but no. I'm not goine to scold anyone for having a stupid phone, but I'll roll my eyes at you and whisper to the other passengers.
How do I pay you if I can't use my phone?
Well, tickets are bought online, while you're at home. The items available on the boat (see our food an beverages link) are all available for donations - feel free to donate the standard price plus mark up for my efforts. Tips are welcome too. There is a jar that says "Paper Money" and "'F' Jar" in the main cabin - that is where you can deposit cash. There is also one of those venmo and zelle scanner duddle square thingys in the main cabin - which you could potentially use to pay through zelle or venmo. There are to-go business cards with those little square thingies on them too.
Should I bring Fishing Gear
Check out the Fishing Page for more info. In short - we provide the basics: a pole, reel, line, weight and dead bait, all for you to sink a hook to the bottom where things like shark, rays and hallibut hang out.
Do I need a fishing license?
If you are fishing and 16 or older, yes. Buy your own - I don't sell them. See the Califonria Fish and Game website for information and to buy one online.
